Biography
Mrs. Powell was thrilled to join the St. Matthew's Parish School faculty in 2011 as the co-teacher in the First Grade, having spent the previous 23 summers working at the St. Matthew’s Parish Day Camp. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Arts in Education from Pepperdine University. Mrs. Powell began her teaching career in 1995, and has worked in schools in both Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. In addition to teaching at the elementary school level, she spent three years as an Academic Advisor at Marymount High School and is currently the Assistant Director at St. Matthew's Day Camp. Mrs. Powell believes in the importance of providing a supportive classroom environment that allows students to gain confidence and to feel ready to take on new challenges. Her goal is to create a nurturing atmosphere and engaging curriculum that meets the needs of a diverse group of learners and fosters a lifelong love of learning.
