Biography

Rachel Anne believes the library is a sort of playground for the mind, where students can stretch their imaginations, satisfy their curiosity and play with ideas. Ms. Mencke reads almost incessantly, and she delights in sharing her favorite stories-- both with and without puppets. As an undergraduate, Rachel Anne studied Archaeology of Egypt at the University of Chicago. She received her Master of Library and Information Sciences from the University of Illinois. Ms. Mencke worked as a youth services librarian for several years in public libraries before jetting off to the Kingdom of Bahrain, where she was Head Librarian at a K-12 school. During her travels, she has held a wild hummingbird, walked through the Paris sewers, camped with Bedouin and crawled through ancient pyramids. Working at St. Matthew's school is her next Grand Adventure.
