Biography

John Dowling is very excited to join the faculty of St. Matthew’s in 2015, after having spent eleven summers as a counselor and music director at St. Matthew’s Day Camp. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz and an Masters Degree in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. Prior to joining St. Matthew’s, he taught the fourth grade and middle school English at Corpus Christi School for nine years. Mr. Dowling loves teaching literature and seeing his students expand their understanding of themselves and the world around them through writing. Mr. Dowling also enjoys composing and performing music, and believes that all students can use their creative gifts, in any form, as pathways to discovery and knowledge.
