Biography
Michael Oliviero, Esq. joins the St. Matthew's Upper School English faculty this year. He spent his undergraduate education at Duke University studying philosophy and economics. An avid outdoorsman thanks to his upbringing in a small town in Maine, Michael then worked after college leading outdoor adventure trips and bike touring trips for teens in Europe and Africa. He subsequently got his Juris Doctorate at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta with accolades in oral advocacy and practiced litigation at a large Boston law firm. Michael later left the law to return to his passion for working directly with students in exposing them to the beauties inherent in writing, oratory, literature, and analytical thinking. Before coming to St. Matthew's, Michael taught at Chadwick and Polytechnic School. It was in these esteemed institutions that he developed his teaching philosophies that encourage risk-taking, evoke impassioned engagement, and put the student at the center of the learning experience. Michael creates an atmosphere in his classrooms that asks his students to confront their burgeoning senses of identity through self-reflection, creative writing, and student ownership of learning.
