Student Success Team
At St. Matthew’s, our Student Success Team – including dedicated learning specialists and a compassionate school counselor – is committed to nurturing each student’s academic, emotional, and social growth. Our learning specialists work closely with teachers and families to provide targeted support for students who may benefit from additional assistance, using personalized strategies that align with each student’s unique learning profile. They focus on building skills and confidence across various subjects, especially in areas where students face challenges. We differentiate to meet the needs of all our learners.
The School Counselor plays a vital role in fostering a positive school environment by offering guidance and support for social-emotional well-being. Through individual and group sessions, as well as classroom guidance, our counselor helps students develop strong interpersonal skills, resilience, and emotional intelligence. Together, our Student Support Team provides a well-rounded, supportive foundation for all students, empowering them to thrive in both academic and personal endeavors.
EARLY CHILDHOOD & LOWER SCHOOL
We devote care and attention to every Early Childhood and Lower School student’s academic, physical, emotional, and social development through a team of professionals, who work closely with classroom teachers to support student needs.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Student Success Team at St. Matthew’s School takes a proactive, collaborative approach aimed at promoting academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success and well-being. The Student Success Team offers students many opportunities for support outside of traditional classroom time.
Our Team helps students develop strong executive functioning skills, collaborates with teachers and parents to provide professional development, and works closely with outside support.
Writing Lab
Writing Lab – offered twice a week before school – provides an opportunity for students to improve their reading comprehension, written output, and essay-writing skills. Students receive one-to-one or small group support from the Middle School Learning Specialist. By collaborating with the English teachers, the Learning Specialist is able to tailor sessions to focus on specific skills, which helps to maintain continuity in the classroom.
Math Lab
The Middle School Math Lab is open Tuesday through Friday mornings before school begins. Each day, a different math teacher leads the session, providing students with personalized support to get extra help, clarify concepts, or prepare for upcoming tests. Whether students need support with homework or want to strengthen their understanding of key topics, the Math Lab is an invaluable resource for boosting confidence and achieving success in math.
