Architectural Firm Selected for Bienveneda Strategic Rebuild
November 07, 2025
In early September, members of St. Matthew’s Vestry and Board of Trustees interviewed leading architectural firms to select a partner for redeveloping the Bienveneda Campus.
St. Matthew’s Board of Trustees and Vestry proudly approved the selection of Michael Maltzan Architecture to serve as the architect for the strategic rebuild of the Bienveneda Campus. Both the School and Parish leadership feel strongly that MMA’s world class portfolio and internal philosophy match the values and authenticity of the St. Matthew’s community.
“St. Matthew’s campus is a beautiful expression of what it means to have a true heart of community. Developing this next iteration of School and Parish buildings brings the extraordinary opportunity to weave deeply cherished traditions and what makes this space so special, with the energy and excitement of the future,” said Maltzan after being selected.
Michael Maltzan founded Michael Maltzan Architecture, Inc. in 1995. His projects cross a wide range of typologies, from cultural institutions to city infrastructure. The firm’s work is based on the belief that architecture continues to have a fundamental, potent role in shaping how we experience the world. It is in this public realm, in the interaction between the built environment and its users, where ideas can find their expression, where virtual relationships can foster actual experiences and change. His talent and influence can be seen all across Los Angeles including UCLA, Harvard-Westlake School, Playa Vista, and the Kidspace Children’s Museum.
Because of the strategic design and layout of the Fall 2026 School campus, construction on the larger redevelopment of the north end of the campus will be able to happen simultaneously.
MMA will be looking deeply at the culture and traditions of St. Matthew’s to integrate the natural beauty of our surroundings and the interconnected spirit of a Parish and School to build a truly beautiful, functional, warm, and inspiring campus for generations to come.
