Campus Health, Safety & Security
The safety and well-being of every student, employee, volunteer, and visitor is our highest priority at St. Matthew’s Parish School. Creating a safe, healthy, and welcoming campus requires thoughtful planning, ongoing investment, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Whether preparing for everyday school operations or unexpected emergencies, our Operations Team works closely with school leadership, the Parish, first responders, security professionals, environmental experts, and local agencies to ensure our campus remains a place where students can serve, lead, and flourish.
Our Commitment
At St. Matthew’s, our goal is simple: to foster a campus that is welcoming, safe, and secure, while supporting the mission of the Parish and School and allowing learning, ministry, worship, and fellowship to thrive.
The Parish of St. Matthew and St. Matthew’s Parish School share one beautiful 29-acre campus that serves many purposes throughout the week. With so many people and activities sharing this space, creating a safe and welcoming campus requires thoughtful planning and intentional practices. Access to different areas of campus may vary depending on the activities taking place, the time of day, and the needs of our community.
Our Operations Team continually evaluates our practices, technology, facilities, emergency procedures, and partnerships to ensure we are meeting the highest standards for independent schools while supporting the mission and values of St. Matthew’s. This Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) is one part of our commitment to ensuring that St. Matthew’s is prepared to respond to emergencies and protect the people entrusted to our care. It provides the framework, procedures, and expectations that guide our response before, during, and after an emergency.
We are committed to transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and we invite families to learn more about the many ways we work every day to care for our community. Preparedness is a shared responsibility, and each of us plays an important role in keeping the St. Matthew’s community safe.

Strengthening Our Commitment Following the Palisades Fire
The January 2025 Palisades Fire fundamentally reshaped how our school approaches health, safety, and operational resilience.
As we prepared to return to our Bienveneda campus, we partnered with nationally recognized environmental consultants, industrial hygienists, engineers, restoration specialists, and independent testing laboratories to ensure our campus met rigorous health and safety standards before welcoming students and employees back.
While extensive remediation and testing have been completed, our commitment does not end with reopening. We have implemented an ongoing program of environmental monitoring and campus maintenance to help ensure the long-term health of our community.
We know families have questions, and we are committed to providing timely, transparent information as our campus continues to recover and renew.

Health & Wellness
While procedures and technology are important, the strongest safety program is built on relationships.
Our faculty, staff, students, and families all play an important role in maintaining a healthy and secure campus. We encourage community members to ask questions, report concerns, and share suggestions as we continue strengthening our programs together.
Supporting the health and well-being of every member of our community is fundamental to our mission. At St. Matthew’s, we believe students thrive when they feel physically safe, emotionally supported, spiritually grounded, and connected to a caring community.
Our Health & Wellness team works collaboratively to support students, employees, and families through both everyday needs and times of challenge.
Our staff are First Aid & CPR certified.
