Campus Health, Safety & Security

Our campus is supported by both armed and unarmed security team members who work closely with school leadership to monitor campus activity, manage visitor access, respond to incidents, and help maintain a safe learning environment throughout the school day and during special events.

All visitors enter campus through Gate 1, where they are welcomed at The Nest, our centralized reception area.

Every visitor is required to check in using our SchoolPass Visitor Management System before accessing campus. This process helps us ensure we always know who is on campus while creating a welcoming experience for families and guests.

Recent campus improvements include:

• Campus-wide high-speed Wi-Fi infrastructure

• Expanded security camera coverage

• Updated locks and secured Bienveneda gates on campus

• Campus-wide emergency paging and communication system

Together, these investments strengthen our ability to communicate quickly, monitor campus activity, and respond effectively when needed.

Students and employees regularly participate in emergency drills throughout the school year, including:

• Fire drills

• Earthquake drills

• Lockdown and secure campus drills

• Shelter-in-place procedures

• Evacuation and reunification exercises

These drills allow our community to practice procedures before they are ever needed.

In accordance with California requirements, St. Matthew’s maintains a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan that includes prevention strategies, employee training, reporting procedures, and continuous review of campus safety practices.

The school maintains emergency food, drinking water, first aid supplies, and other critical resources to support students and employees should an extended emergency require us to shelter on campus.

Our School Counselor partners with students, families, and faculty to foster social-emotional growth, resilience, and healthy relationships. Through classroom programming, small groups, individual support, and parent collaboration, the counseling program helps students develop the skills they need to flourish both in and out of the classroom.

Devyn Amos

As an Episcopal school, faith and pastoral care are central to who we are. Our School Chaplain provides spiritual leadership, pastoral support, and opportunities for reflection and service, ensuring every member of our community feels known, valued, and cared for regardless of their faith tradition.

Rev. Stefanie Wilson

Our Health Office supports the daily medical needs of students by managing medications, responding to illness and injury, partnering with families on health plans, and promoting healthy practices across campus.

Fiona Catling

The Director of Human Resources helps cultivate a healthy workplace by supporting employee well-being, professional development, workplace culture, and compliance with health and safety practices. Through onboarding, required training, and ongoing support, HR plays an important role in maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all employees.

Juana Ochoa

The Chief Operating Officer oversees campus operations, facilities, environmental health, security, emergency preparedness, risk management, transportation, and business continuity. Working alongside school leadership, the COO leads the planning and continuous improvement efforts that help keep our campus healthy, secure, and prepared.

Health and wellness is a shared responsibility. Our counselor, chaplain, health office, human resources, operations team, faculty, and school leadership work together to proactively identify needs, support individuals, and foster a culture where every student and employee can learn, work, and thrive.
