Early Childhood Celebrates The Week of the Young Child!

April 17, 2025

Our Preschool class celebrated The Week of the Young Child, an annual event organized by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This special week highlights the importance of early childhood education and recognizes the crucial roles that educators and families play in shaping young children’s futures.

Music Monday

Preschoolers became young musicians as they explored hand bells and a steel tongue drum. Beautiful melodies filled the classroom as our little ones discovered the joy of creating music together.

Tasty Tuesday

The children prepared delicious fruit kabobs with honey yogurt dipping sauce. This hands-on activity wasn’t just about enjoying treats—it helped develop important skills including eye-hand coordination, fine motor control, counting, and spatial awareness.

Work Together Wednesday

Collaboration was the theme as our preschoolers engaged in various team activities:

  • Keeping balls balanced on a parachute through coordinated movements
  • Creating a colorful circle mural as a group art project
  • Building a car wash using small blocks
  • Programming a BeeBot to help a caterpillar reach its food—introducing basic coding concepts through teamwork

Artsy Thursday

Individual creativity flourished as children created unique artwork using paper they had painted weeks earlier. They practiced cutting, gluing, and hole-punching to create their masterpieces. Continuing their classroom’s caterpillar theme week, students also sculpted clay caterpillars. Art experiences like these are essential for developing our young SMPS Falcons’ creative thinking and fine motor skills.

Family Friday

We concluded the week by celebrating the most important influence in our children’s lives—their families. Students created heartwarming family portraits and shared stories about their favorite family activities.

The Week of the Young Child was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our preschoolers’ growth, creativity, and learning through engaging, developmentally appropriate activities.
