Students at St. Matthew’s develop confidence and character that carry far beyond our campus. The majority of our students matriculate to highly selective high schools, both regionally and nationally, and others enroll in local well-respected charter and public high schools. The wide array of high schools is a testament to the diverse make-up and strengths of our student community, and our strong secondary school outplacement program helps each student find the right fit.

Beginning in the spring of 7th Grade, the Outplacement and Counseling Team meets with parents and students to share information about the process and review the timeline. The Team conducts summer meetings with each rising 8th Grade family to begin thinking about academic fit for their child and to expand their initial list of potential high schools. 8th Grade students attend essay writing workshops and mock interview preparation and also have the opportunity to meet with admission directors from a variety of day and boarding schools, who visit St. Matthew’s in the fall of the 8th Grade year.

St. Matthew's Secondary School Process

At St. Matthew’s Parish School, our secondary school process doesn’t begin in 8th Grade, but rather begins in 5th Grade and continues through 8th Grade. Each year consists of challenging academics, critical thinking, problem-solving, and bonding retreats that all contribute to and prepare our students for the next step in their education.

Beginning in spring, our Secondary School Counseling Team meets with all rising 8th Grade families to discuss the school search process, provides information on secondary schools, and helps guide each family through the application process. Throughout May, each family meets individually with the Counseling Team to discuss in more depth the path to pursue.

The team’s focus is to find the right school for each student. Our team also ensures that every school receives all transcripts, letters of recommendation, and any other credentials required promptly and are in place to support a family’s journey every step of the way.

St. Matthew’s helps encourage people to develop their voice and speak up in class. In some of my larger lectures, I became a more active participant and ended up really thriving. As a junior now, I believe St. Matthew’s is still relevant. I feel it educated my entire person; the values and the experiences I gained by going through the Preschool through 8th grade program and really forming deep connections with all of my classmates was so valuable.
