Parents’ Council
If you have a child enrolled at St. Matthew’s Parish School, then you are automatically a member of the Parents’ Council, our organization of parent volunteers. Parents’ Council has volunteer opportunities for every schedule and interest.
By participating, parents enrich the School, benefit their children, and become part of a strong, supportive community. Here are some of the vital school activities and programs for which Parents’ Council is responsible.
Faculty & Staff Appreciation
The Parents’ Council organizes appreciation breakfasts and lunches, distributes holiday, year-end, and special event faculty and staff gifts and recognition. Parents’ Council also facilitates lotteries and distribution of items donated by parents (i.e. tickets to cultural events, vacation getaways, gift certificates, and donated opportunities) to faculty members, matching teacher interest to available donations.
Fundraising
The Parents’ Council plans two major fundraisers every year: the Auction Dinner in February and Town Fair in May.

Party Book
Throughout the year, Party Book also plans several smaller host-led fundraisers that collectively make a big impact. Monies raised through Parents’ Council fundraisers help pay for special school programs such as new technology for classrooms, teacher seminars, financial aid, and the after-school sports program. These events allow for parent participation and serve to bring our families and community together.
Communication
The Parents’ Council helps strengthen communication between parents, teachers, and the administration through general Parents’ Council meetings, weekly room parent emails, distribution of the School calendar, and detailed announcements about events and fundraisers in the bi-weekly school newsletter, the Falcon Flyer. Parent volunteers who assist with these communications keep everyone in our community informed.
Planning Special Events & Programs
The Parents’ Council organizes cultural arts programs, service learning opportunities, our beloved plates fundraiser, and Grandparents & Special Friends Day. It also oversees the lost & found, used uniforms donations or sales, recruits countless library volunteers, welcomes new School families, manages carpool and safety directives, supports back-to-school efforts, parent parties, and much more.
